If your lot is located in a low-lying area, it surely causes you a lot of problems. Indeed, putting in order a place where water constantly stands is quite difficult – to drain such areas you would have to invest a significant amount of money.
And what should those do who simply don’t have it? After all, everyone wants to have a beautiful dacha, regardless of their means.
Options like making a pond or digging a stream are well known, and we won’t dwell on them. Let’s instead talk about those plants that feel great in waterlogged soils.
Yes, such plants exist, and there are quite a few of them. You have surely seen such places in nature and noticed how attractive they can look. So why not create such a composition at your own dacha?
Try planting arizema in a damp place – this is an unusual tuberous plant with large beautiful leaves and bright fruits that are noticeable even from a distance. And in early summer arizemas are decorated with interesting inflorescences.
Depending on the variety, the height of the flowers varies, so you can choose for yourself both a compact plant 50 cm tall and tall specimens whose stems exceed one meter.
This is an ideal plant for loose moist soils – arizemas grow excellently in such conditions, are not damaged by slugs, feel great in boggy soils, and need only light winter cover.
Forget-me-nots of different species – both woodland and marsh – feel wonderfully on wet soils. Their flowering is practically continuous – they start blooming in May, if not earlier, and by the end of June their seeds are already ripening.
In moist soil, the seeds germinate in the same year and form lush rosettes. These rosettes overwinter under the snow to bloom in April–May of the next season and continue to reproduce by self-seeding.
Blue forget-me-nots look very beautiful during flowering; they grow to about 30 cm in height and width and will greatly adorn any area.
By the way, these flowers are undemanding to light and feel great in partial shade and even in shade, except that flowering will be slightly less abundant.
And if you like grasses, then on a boggy plot you can settle sedges, and almost any species and varieties will be suitable. They can be combined to create the most intricate compositions, since sedges are completely undemanding and look wonderful.
Sedges love moisture, are winter-hardy, and feel excellent both in the sun and in shade. By the way, they look great next to ferns, which also grow quite well in moist places.
Three beautiful plants for waterlogged places
This is, of course, far from all the plants that grow in wet places, but to begin with you can plant exactly these three in your boggy spot as the most undemanding ones and see what you get.
And the main thing is how much you will like the result! I, for one, really, really lack such a corner – I dream of a small pond and bulbous calypso, which are almost impossible to grow.
But I still really want to try!
